  1. Six levels are offered: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus, and Calculus.
  2. As some problems are shared among these levels a student can take only one of these levels at a time.
  3. No student may take a level for a course he or she has completed at school, with the exception of calculus.
  4. For schools with integrated curricula here the rules via example are:
    1) In a school with a two year sequence mixing say high-school level geometry with Algebra II, students in the first year should take the Geometry level and in the second take the Algebra II.
    2) In a school with a one year accelerated/honors class mixing two of the levels, students should take the lower level in the fall contest and the higher level in the spring contest (where the ordering is taken as in the GDCTM/McNabb competition itself).
    3) If neither of the two examples just given fit closely enough your situation please consult with the Contest Director.
  5. Calculators are not allowed.
  6. Students may use only pencil or pen, blank scratch paper, graph paper, compass, ruler, and eraser.
  7. All answers are student generated (no multiple choice format).
  8. All contests have 15 questions.
  9. The time limit for Pre-Algebra and Algebra I is 45 minutes; for all others, it is 60 minutes.
  10. Each level will have at least 50% of its questions in that content area. The remaining questions are divided among: 1) those from earlier levels; 2) counting and probability problems whose difficulty level increases as the level of the contest increases.
  11. All contests must be administered and closely proctored at your school during the school-week long assigned window. All materials must remain secure. Remind students to not discuss problems with anyone at school or outside of school until the following week. Pick up all contest forms, answer sheets, and scratch paper after the contest and do not return any of these to your students until the following week.
  12. All scores must be reported on the contest web-page within the time-frame given for your student and school results to be official and eligible for awards.
  13. In each level awards are given to the top five individuals and top three teams (both counting ties).
  14. A school’s team score is the sum of their top three individual scores in a given level.
